Haikou (CNS) -- On July 17 the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People's Congress approved the set up of an organizing committee for the legislative body of Sansha, the newly established prefectural-level city.
The Standing Committee of the Sansha Municipal People's Congress will have fifteen members, and sixty deputies to the municipal people's congress will be elected directly by citizens.
The city's mayor, vice mayor, president of the Municipal Intermediate People's Court, and procurator of the People's Procuratorate of Sansha City will be elected at the first session of the Municipal People's Congress.
The State Council approved the establishment of Sansha last June. The prefecture level city administers the Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha island groups and their surrounding waters in the South China Sea.
