Beijing (CNS) -- The opening ceremony for the 2012 Taiwan Youth's Harmonious Journey was held in Beijing on July 16. Over twenty orphans from Xinyi Children's Home of Taiwan will go on a long distance biking journey from Beijing to Xiamen starting on Monday.
The team of kids will depart from the Bird's Nest- the main stadium of the Beijing Olympic Games, pass through the cities of Tianjin, Jinan, Xuzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wenzhou, Fuzhou etc., and arrive at their final destination of Xiamen on August 20.
The youngest is only eight years old while the eldest is 18, and all will be leaving Taiwan for the first time, said Wu Wenhui, director of the home. He is pleased the activity has drawn so much generous support from the mainland.
Wu said that children growing up in orphanage are usually shy and unwilling to express their feelings, but such activities will push them to be more confident and communicative.
