Taiyuan (CNS) -- "I don't want to die, because I am a witness to the crimes committed by Japanese troops during the war," 84-year-old Wan Aihua said flatly in a weak voice on July 5 at the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province.
Wan Aihua was the first lady to come forward among the many Chinese comfort women attached to Japanese troops, telling how she fell victim to the invaders.
Between 1992 and today, Wan has appeared before Japanese courts at all levels a dozen times, volunteering to take off her clothes to reveal scars left by Japanese soldiers. However, the suits were each rejected by the courts, claiming the case was out of date or that individuals are unable to sue the government.
Wan has survived severe brain disease that afflicted her in the beginning of the year, and is now receiving acupuncture therapy at the hospital to boost her further recovery.
