Beijing (CNS) -- China is investing US$81 million in the establishment of a modern three-dimensional high precision mapping and surveying system to be built over the next four years, according to the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM), June 26.
The opening ceremony for the project was held in Beijing. Over 1,000 technicians of the SBSM immediately dispersed to all parts of the nation to start mapping and surveying.
China's current surveying and mapping system lags behind that of many countries, insufficient to satisfy the demands of national defense, the economy and social development, said Li Weisen, vice director of SBSM.
The project will provide real-time positioning and navigation information that will satisfy the needs of multiple departments.
