Fuzhou (CNS) -- Strong rainfall has been beating the southwest part of Fujian Province since Friday, as part of a monsoon attack following the tropical cyclone Talim, according to the provincial flood control authority, Sunday.
The havoc includes various degrees of damage to dwellings, crops, infrastructure and water conservation facilities, with 7,873 residents affected, particularly in the cities of Nanping and Sanming. The Wuyi Mountain scenic zone has temporarily closed the roads and paths under its administration.
Pucheng Township alone suffered direct economic losses amounting to 165 million yuan (US$25.93 million),the town authority has estimated.
No casualties have been reported so far, and total economic losses throughout the region are still being verified.
The provincial meteorological department issued a rainstorm alert for the region at 5p.m. on Sunday, warning against waterlogging, torrential floods and other geological risks, as well as the potential dangers posed by lightning, especially in the above two mentioned cities.
