Tangshan (CNS) -- Tong Zhengguo left junior high school 38 years ago but has finally achieved a Bachelor Degree in Economics at age 64. The senior received her academic honor from the College of Light Industry, Hebei United University on June 5.
Tong first broke ground as China's oldest student, admitted by the college in September 2008, having been selected among those who successfully passed the college entrance examination. Teachers and students immediately nicknamed her "grandma student."
It was a tough journey for Tong to get her chance to study again and experience campus life. She participated in three entrance exam sessions over three years to gain entry to her chosen college.
College Dean Tan Jing remarked that the grandma student's story is a positive message and an inspiration to this year's 3,000 graduates. Tan hopes the grandma graduate continues to pursue her studies and find happiness in her future endeavors.
