Shijiazhuang (CNS) -- A newly discovered tomb location in Hebei Province was designed with multiple layers of protection since its establishment over one thousand years ago, and upgraded by later generations, said Xiefei, deputy director of the local cultural relics bureau.
The ancient tomb, 12 interconnecting tomb rooms made of blue bricks, sits 15 kilometers away from Quyang County.
Xie said during a recent exploration they found that the mouth of the tomb corridor was fully blockaded with bricks, stones and earth in a bottom-up vertical order.
Bureau researcher Chen Wei confirmed they found two tomb bricks carved with the date of a renovation which took place in 1149.
The archaeological work continues and the identity of the interned needs to be established from the collection of items excavated.
