Guangzhou (CNS) -- The city government of Guangzhou ordered on Thursday that all incorrect English translations of public signs must be corrected within two years, based on the provincial translation standard.

As of May 1, all public signs at hotels with stars, tourist attractions of the A-class or above, airports, bus stations, passenger terminals, metro stops, and urban roads, must be regulated. Those with textual descriptions must be interpreted in both Chinese and English.

The official document specifically touches on important short-term occasions such as trade, flower and temple fairs.

The city's supervisory authority will be open to public reports via the hotline 12365. Confirmed cases of those ignoring the official rules will receive fines ranging from 2,000 to 30,000 yuan, depending on the situation.
