Guangdong hot bed of IPR court cases

Guangzhou (CNS) -- The number of disputes over intellectual property rights has seen explosive growth in Guangdong Province during the last three years, with cases filed rising from 6,144 in 2009 to 16,094 in 2011, according to the local court.

On Tuesday, the Higher People's Court of Guangdong Province (HPCGP) released a white paper on the status quo of judicial protection over intellectual property.

The Internet has become a hotbed for torts and disputes over copyrights on work, non-authorized online publications and so on accounted for more than seventy percent of IPR complaints.

Xu Chunjian, vice chief justice of HPCGP, said Guangdong is in top place among China's provinces for the number of IPR cases filed during the last eight years.
