China the apple of Honda's eye

Beijing (CNS) -- Honda aims to double its sales in China by 2015, by means of gradually launching more than 10 new or upgraded models beginning in 2013, announced Japan's second largest automaker on Tuesday.

Honda will "reform our business operation" and "further deepen our presence in China," revealed Seiji Kuraishi, head of Honda China.

Eco-friendly and hybrid cars top its agenda. Honda aims to become the largest producer of fuel-efficient cars in China. Kuraishi expects China to become the largest hybrid market in the world, a chance Honda can't miss.

The 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition slated for late April is expecting the global debut of Honda's two concept cars, especially designed for Chinese consumers.

Dongfeng Honda and Guangqi Hongda, two of Honda's joint ventures in China, will expand the local research and development teams led by Chinese, as well as strengthen relationships with Chinese manufacturers of automotive replacement parts.

Dongfeng Honda will put its second factory into operation in July, applying the world's most advanced technology and environmental protection concepts to the production of complete vehicles. Guangqi Honda is also planning its third assembly line, expected to be up and running in 2014.
