Fuzhou (CNS) -- The Singaporean vessel "Bareli" hit a reef near Fujian waters in south China last Thursday, causing oil leak into the surrounding sea. So far, the floating oil spill has basically been cleaned up and the source of the leak is now under control.

Currently, five cleanup companies are engaged in extracting and recycling the pooled oil and doing some construction work to consolidate the oil containment boom. Visibility is expected to remain good at sea, yet strong wind leads to surges.

Dispatched by the state bureau of marine affairs, China's most advanced ocean patrol vessel, the Haixun-21, arrived at the scene on Tuesday, to supervise the cleanup operation and ensure sufficient backup was available. The high-tech ship is capable of 3D all-weather monitoring.

The crippled freighter carried 216 standard containers, fortunately without dangerous chemicals.
