Japanese businessman apologizes for massacre denial

Nanjing (CNS) – Japanese businessman Yuki Sugihiro apologized on Wednesday in Nanjing for the behavior of the Mayor of Nagoya. Nagoya Kawamura, while meeting with a delegation from Nanjing on Feb 20, asserted that the Nanking Massacre "probably never happened."

Yuki Sugihiro, 61, from Fukuoka Prefecture of Japan, took pains to explain that he and other Japanese entrepreneurs have devoted themselves to Sino-Japan exchanges and were distraught about the mayor's denial.

He also said while a minority of Japanese still deny the massacre, the majority own up to the disgraceful historical event.

Yuki Sugihiro donated one million yen to the survivors of the Nanjing Massacre by way of an apology and condolences, and wished them health and happiness in their golden years of life.

Zhu Chengshan, president of the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, said Yuki Sugihiro is a Japanese entrepreneur with conscience. Despite not experiencing the war personally, Yuki Sugihiro visited the museum many times to learn the history of the confrontation, and committed himself to spreading the truth about the Nanjing Massacre.
