    BGI makes practical breakthrough in genome sequencing

    Shenzhen (CNS) -- The Huada Genomics Institute in Shenzhen broke through the shortage of experimental specimens in the field of formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue sequencing technology, Thursday.

    The achievement in molecular biology is prone to more reliable and precise experimental results and can contribute to comprehensive studies on the genetic mechanism contained in long-preserved pathological FFPE tissue specimens and their pathological causes.

    With this improved technology, only 200 nanograms of DNA are enough to build a database for sequencing and analysis.

    Owing to limited sources of fresh organism specimens, the FFPE alternative has become one of the most common approaches adopted in biological labs. Yet before the achievement was made, the amount of high-quality research objects was seriously restricted to the DNA crosslinking and degradation effects caused by formalin and paraffin.
