S. China flu outbreak under control

Guangzhou (CNS) -- Between late February and March 6, 192 flu cases erupted in a middle school in Sanshui District, Foshan, east China's Guangdong Province. The epidemic is now under control, assured the provincial health authorities, Wednesday.

Some students gradually developed such symptoms as fever, cough and pharynagalgia, but by the time of the official report, no serious cases were on record and most patients are returning to health.

Tests show most of them were infected by B-type flu. No further infection is expected, thanks to prompt isolation of the sufferers, enough air circulation, and comprehensive disinfection measures accompanied by timely check-ups and public dissemination of flu prevention methods.

Five more flu cases were reported so far this year, exceeding last year's figure of seven, and were mostly Type B, as in the past.

Experts warn the public of an approaching flue-prone season from late March into early April, especially in schools and other densely-populated organizations.

The provincial health authority has enhanced monitoring and ordered hospitals and educational institutions to take every means to prevent an epidemic.
