Shanghai (CNS) -- Shanghai plans to raise the overall payment standard for its city workers in response to hiking prices, with an emphasis on the elder care system and minimum wage levels, according to the Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau on Tuesday.

In terms of elder welfare, retirement pension levels will be properly adjusted to encounter soaring prices, and local employers will be urged and monitored to safeguard the rights of the retired.

As of April 1, the municipality will consecutively improve the minimum wage standards, the minimum living system for urban and rural residents, as well as unemployment insurance benefits. It will be the 19th time in a row for a minimum wage increase.

The bureau will collaborate with employers on a salary regime that is more flexible to prices. For employees of the public service and commonweal sectors in particular, wages and allowances will be better assured, as underlined by Mayor Han Zheng during the city's Two Sessions meetings this year.
