Fuzhou port suspends tea exports

Fuzhou (CNS) – The port of Fuzhou has suspended all exports of tea from Fujian, Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces and several other areas while it carries out a thorough investigation into charges the products are tainted with pesticide residue, announced the Fuzhou Bureau of Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine (FBEEIQ) on February 6.

Some days ago, the EU circulated examples of Chinese tea cases in which the pesticide residues were found to be higher than the allowable limit.

Between January 24 and 26, four batches of Chinese teas, including jasmine, green and oolong leaves, were reported substandard by Germany, Bulgaria, Italy and the Czech Republic. The exporting regions include Fujian Province, Zhejiang Province and Guangdong Province.

The FBEEIQ attaches great importance to the EU reports of breached standards and will ban use of the detected pesticide from tea production bases.
