Beijing (CNS) -- Consumers will be able to track the entire circulation process of pork sold at 63 Carrefour and CSF Market outlets in Beijing, a municipal official announced on Wednesday.

A 20-digit code will be added to each pork product, allowing consumers to see the history of the product from the pig farm to the market through a scanning device.

The pilot plan covers three slaughterhouses, three wholesale meat markets and 300 retail terminals, accounting for almost 60 percent of the capital's pork supply, but is not available for beef, chicken or fish products.

The method is scheduled to be adopted by all 14 slaughterhouses, nine wholesale markets and more than 4,000 retail terminals, as well as all Wal-Mart and Ito Yokado stores around the city.
