Jinan (CNS) -- Cultural relic authorities in Shandong Province have spent four years collecting data on China's most ancient existing section of the Great Wall, and have now compiled a general conservation plan to renovate the masterpiece, the Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau told CNS on Monday.

The Great Wall of Qi was built more than 2,000 years ago during the Spring-Autumn and Warring States Periods. It is the earliest of all Great Wall projects and an unprecedented example of Chinese defensive architecture.

Based on various fieldtrips to eight prefectures and 18 counties located along the wall, experts have confirmed a west end to the multiple-track Great Wall of Qi, according to the bureau.

The conservation plan includes renovations of crucial parts of the province's strategic cultural heritage, as well as ecological improvements along the wall.
