Beijing (CNS) – The US oil firm ConocoPhillips conceded on December 21 that compensation for the oil spill early this year is still under discussion, and no schedule had yet been made for the indemnity.

The implementation of compensation will comply with China's regulations and laws, and the country's custom of paying off debts before the New Year Festival, announced the president of ConocoPhillips Asia Pacific operation Don E. Wallette Jr., on December 21.

ConocoPhillips was responsible for the oil spills in China's Bohai Sea in June this year. It promised to set up a Bohai Sea Compensation Fund and Environment Fund in September, but to date no details on the two funds were released. Wallette was quoted as saying that over 2,600 barrels of drilling mud and 50 barrels crude oil had already been cleaned up.
