    Third quake shakes NW China in one week

    Lanzhou (CNS) -- The third earthquake of this week, this time a magnitude of 4.1, has struck the region where Aksai Kazakh Autonomous County of Gansu Province meets the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province, at 1:39 p.m., Wednesday.

    The epicenter is located at 39.4 degrees north latitude and 94.5 degrees east longitude and the depth of the quake was recorded as 6 km, reports Gansu Seismologic Network. The previous two quakes measured 4.0 and 3.7 respectively.

    No deaths or casualties were recorded in the three occurrences, according to Yang Liming, deputy director at Gansu Seismological Bureau, but a handful of buildings were slightly damaged in the lastest one. Authorities have sent an investigation team to the quake-stricken area for further details.

    An official confirmed the stricken region sits close to the epicenter on the Altyn Tagh Fault Zone. Residents reported different degrees of seisesthesia.
