Beijing (CNS) – Global Compact Network China (GCNC) was established in Beijing today, driven by the United Nations Global Compact, China Enterprise Confederation and Sinopec.

The GCNC aims to attract more Chinese enterprises to join the Global Compact and promote ten fundamental principles with respect to human rights, the environment, labour standards, and so on.

Fu Chenyu, a member of Global Compact Council and the president of China Sinopec, takes up the duties of GCNC's first chairman. Fu is quoted as saying that enterprises are the main consumer of social resources as well as environmental pollutant-producers. Enterprises should manage their own sustainable development and be responsible for employees and consumers, he added.

The United Nations Global Compact was set up in 2000, absorbing over 240 Chinese enterprises and organizations.

To date, 75 state-run enterprises have released social responsibility reports or sustainable development reports, accounting for 64% state-run enterprises, said Peng Huagang, director of Research Bureau at State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council.
