Kuala Lumpur (CNS) -- A series of commemorations are still underway in Singapore and Malaysia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, which overthrew the Qing dynasty on October 10, 1911.

Located in Nanyang, Singapore, the Memorial Hall of Sun Yat Sen, the leader of China's republican revolution, attracted over 70,000 visitors within three weeks, reflecting a deep, persistent impact of the revolution throughout Southeast Asia.

Historically, Southeast Asian used to be a crucial base of Sun's cause. It was not only the residence and birthplace of several significant revolutions, but also served a vital funding source for Sun.

Local Chinese media also had heavy coverage of the commemorations, from reopening of the renovated memorial, to special columns dedicated to the stories, images and other records of the historic event.
