Urumqi (CNS) - A radio astronomical telescope 110 meters in diameter will be built in Qitai, Xinjiang. This large telescope will allow the observation of Pulsars, fixed stars. Meanwhile, it will help to conduct other astronomical studies like Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) astrometry and exploring more unknown celestial bodies, all of these will support the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program and the Exploration of Mars.
According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory, locating on the height of 2,080 meters above sea level, Xinjiang Nanshan Observation Station enjoys distinctive geography to carry out astronomical observations. And an average of 300 sunny days a year allows conducting astronomical observations under feasible weather conditions.
