Tianjin (CNS) -- China's only research icebreaker Xuelong, or "Snow Dragon," left Shanghai for Tianjin, getting ready for the 28th China South Pole expedition mission on November 3.

Xuelong will carry a scientific research team to China's third and most lately built station, Kunlun, at the highest point on the Antarctic continent, 4,093 meters above sea level, officials said.

It will bring supplies, including a ton of organic vegetables, to two Chinese Antarctic stations.

Xue Long is owned and conducted by Polar Research Institute of China. Its overall re-establishment is slated for the next two years, in order to increase the capability of research investigation and logistics support.
