Shanghai (CNS) -- Local residents are having a stronger and stronger penchant for dining out as improving economic conditions allow for it in Shanghai.
Municipal residents spent 1,158 yuan per capita on dining out during the first half of the year, 20% more than the same period in 2010, as is shown in a survey on urban families' consumption, released by the Shanghai Municipal Statistics Bureau, Tuesday.
Shanghai residents' main service consumptions involved dining out, domestic services, medical care, transportation, communication, and recreation, all taking up an ever expanding rate of the total expenditures.
Besides dining, transportation and communication are also among the biggest consumption items. In terms of the former, individual spending reached 749 yuan in 2010, 1.4 times that in 2005. In addition, the cost of family autos hiked to 494 yuan per person, 2.8 times more than that in 2005. While communication services took 978 yuan per person in 2009, 1.5 times that in 2005.
Another evident growth is a larger percentage of consumption on entertainment, as a matter of course with the betterment of the material quality of life and the shift of focus to the pursuit of mental satisfaction.
On average, recreational spending went up to 1,139 per capita in 2010, 1.3 times more than that in 2005. Among this field, travel and keeping fit were 2.7 and 2.3 times that in 2005, respectively. Entertainment costs equaled 649 yuan in the first six months of 2011, taking up 17.7% of the total figure.
