Huizhou (CNS) - More than 2,000 "leftovers" (people of the right age to marry, but who have found themselves alone) gathered at the Fuhai Career Fair in Huizhou, Guangdong Province on the 26th to seek their "Mr. or Miss Right."
This "speed dating" event entailed ladies sitting in a specified area, while the gentlemen browsed and picked out their desired mates. After they locked their targets, men had to hand over their resumes and flowers to the women to try to win their permission for a face-to-face talk.
One woman, nicknamed Coke, is now 26-years-old and working in an advertisement company. According to Coke, her mother signed her up for this activity.
"My mom has been pushing me to get a husband," Coke added. Though she didn't like the idea, she said: "It's a good opportunity to make new friends."
Though there were other women who shared the same idea as Coke, many came to the fair with very specific goals and high standards.
Yaqing, a 29-year-old woman with an annual income of about 100,000 yuan, made it clear that her dates should own a house and a car, and have an annual income of around 120,000 yuan.
Compared with the women, the men who joined this event felt much more uneasy.
"My parents keep urging me to get married, so I came to the fair," said Zhong Xiyun, a man with no speed dating experience before. He at last "retreated" due to the high requirements of the ladies.
Chen Yingjun, the vice general manager of the Fuhai Career Fair said that "leftovers" were in a "golden time of bachelorhood." He believed that with suitable economic and social conditions, the chance for a successful date increased.
