Beijing (CNS)--Beijing plans to eliminate high-pollution, high-emission government cars in the next five years, and replace them with green ones. Moreover, a fuel consumption quota will be issued in a bid to reduce energy consumption in public institutions, revealed Hong Feng, deputy mayor of Beijing Municipality.
Statistics show that by 2010, energy consumption of the 8,519 public institutions in Beijing accounted for 3.2% of the city's total.
Hong pointed out that in the next five years Beijing will focus on conserving energy in public institutions and reducing energy consumption by 12% by 2015. In 2012, Beijing will improve the heat metering system of these institutions and implement a charging mechanism. By 2013, all incandescent lamps will be replaced.
The city will also strengthen its water consumption system to make sure that in 2011 "the consumption of electricity, water, and gas will drop at least 2%," said Zhang Yanyou, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.
