The cyberspace governance has progressed in big stride worldwide in the past year under the coherent efforts of international communities, said a Chinese network information official at a sub forum during the 2nd World Internet Conference in Wuzhen on Friday.

An improving cyberspace governance system is taking shape though opinions still differ in its managing modes and manners, Li Xiaodong, President and CEO of China Internet Network Information Center, told a gathering of Internet information governors, organization heads and foreign firm managers as he opened the "Cyberspace Governance Forum" as the moderator in the eastern river town of Wuzhen.

International communities have also realized the importance of a complete cyberspace governance system and held many meetings and forums this year, including the 10th IGF forum in November that have solicited a variety of public opinions on how to govern the Internet better to keep its sustainability, robustness, security, stability and development.

Jack Ma, founder of China's ecommerce giant Alibaba, was elected co-chairman of the Global Internet Governance Alliance (GIGA) at the first general meeting of GIGA council held in Brazil in June, said Li, highlighting China's role in the international cooperation of Internet governance.

The sub-forum, the first one to lay eyes on governance, aims at sharing different countries' experiences and practices in governing the Internet.

The Second World Internet Conference, the most high-profile Internet related event in China, is taking place in the picturesque water town of Wuzhen, Zhejiang province, Dec 16 to 18.

The conference, with a goal of "building a cyberspace community of shared destiny", has gathered together more than 2,000 participants, including state leaders, government officials, business leaders, Internet titans, and experts from more than 120 countries and regions.

Guests at more than 10 forums will exchange views on a wide range of topics such as Internet culture communication, Internet innovation and development, digital economic cooperation, cyber security, Internet plus, cyberspace governance and the digital Silk Road.
