Visiting Chinese leader lauds construction of Silk Road Economic Zone

Concerted efforts by China and Azerbaijan to build the Silk Road Economic Zone will provide great opportunities for common development of the two nations and realization of mutual benefit and a win-win situation, a visiting Chinese political advisor has said.

Ma Biao, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and vice chairman of Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament, made the remarks here during his two-day visit starting on Tuesday.

In meetings with Ziyafet Asgarov, the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, and other Azerbaijani government and political party leaders, Ma hailed the constant progress of the China-Azerbaijan ties based on equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect.

China will continue to work with Azerbaijan on building the Silk Road Economic Belt under the new circumstances, Ma said.

For his part, Asgarov said that the China-Azerbaijan ties have kept registering progress in recent years, and that bilateral cooperation has achieved fruitful results for both countries.

As an important country on the route of the ancient Silk Road, Azerbaijan will actively take part in the construction of the Silk Road Economic Zone, and is willing to promote continued progress in the development of bilateral relations on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation.
