China open to joining TPP: MOC official

China is open toward joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement, but needs to assess all potential risks, and emphasizes that all economies have the right to choose the regional free trade agreement suitable to its own interests, said Sun Yuanjiang, a MOC official, on Wednesday.

"Joining TPP is a big deal, it has its unique rules, which are different from the terms of negotiations under which China participated in previous trade agreements and the established rules," Sun said.

TPP is a proposed free trade agreement under negotiation by 12 nations including the US, Australia and Japan.

"To make the deal, we need to assess all potential risks," Sun noted further that China is open to any regional trade agreement as long as it is to boost regional prosperity.
