Foreign holdings of US Treasuries decline 0.1 pct in Aug.

Total foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury securities dropped in August for the fifth consecutive month, the U.S. Treasury Department said on Tuesday.

August saw the overall foreign holdings reached 5.5888 trillion U.S. dollars, down 0.1 percent from the revised 5.5939 trillion dollars in July.

According to the Treasury's international capital report, China, the largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasury securities, trimmed its holdings from revised 1.2793 trillion dollars in July to 1.2681 trillion dollars in August.

Meanwhile, Japan, the second largest foreign holder of U.S. government debt, boosted its holdings from 1.1354 trillion dollars in July to 1.1491 trillion dollars in August.
