Cellphone users rise

China saw its cellphone subscribers increase by 1 percent month-on-month in August, hitting a total of 1.2 billion, according to data from China's three wireless operators on Monday.

China Mobile ranked first in 3G user growth, with its 3G users having increased by 7.91 percent in August over the previous month, bringing its 3G users to 158.69 million. China Unicom now has 107.82 million 3G subscribers, having increased 3.79 percent in August from the previous month. Meanwhile, 3G subscribers of China Telecom stand at 93.39 million at present, up 3.31 percent month-by-month in August.
