Shanghai General Motors Co. is recalling 5,744 Buicks and Cadillacs in China starting Monday due to a potential problem with the gear information transfer, China's quality watchdog said.
The company will recall 5,008 Buick LaCrosse sedans manufactured between July 13, 2012 and March 8, 2013, and 736 imported Cadillac SRX cars made from July 11, 2012 to Feb. 18, 2013, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said Monday in a statement.
Shanghai GM said those vehicles may have a lag in the gear information transfer, which can lead to a drop in the engine's braking efficiency in extreme cases, the statement said.
The company will fix the problem by updating related software free of charge for relevant car owners.
