2,870 railway ticket scalping cases uncovered

A total of 2,870 cases of railway ticket scalping were uncovered and punished during China's Spring Festival travel period, the railway police department said Friday.

Railway police busted 196 groups of ticket scalpers and arrested 3,651 people. There were 1,721 ticket scalping cases relating to the Internet, a railway police statement said.

More than 741,000 items of dangerous goods and 978 criminal cases were uncovered during the period that witnessed 240 million journeys, said the statement.

In addition, there were no fires or explosions due to strict checks in railway stations and on the trains.

The Spring Festival, or Chinese lunar new year, is the most important holiday of family reunions for the Chinese. The travel rush last 40 days up until Wednesday.
