European Union members are set to vote on Friday whether to levy punitive duties on Chinese solar firms. China's Commerce Ministry says such a move would "severely impair" bilateral trade ties.
The uncertain outlook and a shrinking EU share in the global market are prompting Chinese solar panel makers to look elsewhere for growth. Chinese solar exports to Europe at one point accounted for 80 percent of the total.
Research agency Solarzoom expects Japan, South Africa, the Middle East, and India to become major destinations for Chinese solar exports. Some PV makers are also outsourcing manufacturing to emerging markets in a bid to avoid high tariffs.
