Toyota reportedly to suspend China plant

Japanese car maker Toyota is planning to shut its largest factory in China for one week starting from next Monday. That's according to Japanese media reports. It will be the first Japanese auto maker to halt production in China, after a territorial dispute about the Diaoyu Islands between the two countries has subdued demand for Japanese cars in the Chinese market.

Toyota's Tianjin factory has taken measures to reduce production following the Chinese National Day holiday early this month. The territorial row between the two countries has taken a heavy toll on Japanese car makers' sales in China.

Toyota's sales of new cars in the Chinese market totalled 44.1 thousand units in September, plunging by nearly a half from a year ago.
