China's development pattern reference to Madagascar

2012-09-30 10:21 Xinhua     Web Editor: Liu Xian comment

Madagascar could learn a lot from China's road of socialism with Chinese characteristics, General Secretary of the Friendship Association of Madagascar and China Eva Zo Rasendra said.

"The development of China, along the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics, has made great progress," said Rasendra, who graduated as a student of philosophy in China's Peking University in the 1970s.

China's road of development is definitely a reference to Madagascar, she told Xinhua in a recent interview.

The concept of China's unique social and economic development pattern was put forward by late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping over three decades ago.

Deng is regarded as the general architecture of China's great adventure of reform and opening-up, which has helped China embark on a period of more than three decades of rapid economic advancement.

"Over the past 30 years, especially in the past decade, China has made such historic accomplishments and progress," Rasendra said.

She recounted some of the remarkable achievements China has made over the past 10 years, saying it has overtaken Japan as the world's second largest economy since 2011, and its per capita gross domestic product (GDP) seen remarkable rise.

In 2002, China's per capita GDP was 1,135 U.S. dollars, while in 2011, the number climbed to 5,432 dollars.

China has also formed and implemented the Scientific Outlook on Development while at the same time follows the guidance of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, and the important thought of Three Represents, Rasendra said.

"I think that's why President Hu Jintao called for stronger determination, more forceful measures and improved system to implement the Scientific Outlook on Development," she added.

The Scientific Outlook on Development, which was proposed by President Hu in 2003, indicates that China is determined to put people first and aims at comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development.

She said her country could learn from China's development pattern in three areas, including the powerful management of the government which can efficiently unite all forces, the important role of rule law in running the country, as well as building a country's culture by boosting its own characteristics.

"To build socialist culture with Chinese characteristics, I think...President Hu is to respect traditional culture. The Chinese government will pay more attention to preserve traditional culture. That is a big reference to Madagascar," she said.

Though Madagascar doesn't have many traditional festivals, it should learn from China on how to preserve its traditional culture, she added.
