Samsung to build memory chip plant in Xi'an

Samsung Electronics, the world's largest maker of memory chips, will establish a memory chip plant in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province.

The plant will be built in the Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone (XHTZ) with an investment of 7 billion U.S. dollars, said Zhao Hongzhuan, director of the XHTZ.

The plant is slated to begin production by the end of 2013.

The project still requires the approval of Chinese authorities, Zhao said.
