Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated on Saturday the call for all parties to the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue to seriously consider the "suspension for suspension" proposal put forward by China.

He made the remarks at a seminar on international relations and China's diplomacy in 2017.

Wang said that the hope of peace has not yet been destroyed, and the prospect of negotiations to solve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue still exists, and people can never accept the option of using force.

He noted that the situation on the Korean Peninsula is still deep in a vicious circle of demonstrating strength and confrontation, and the outlook is not optimistic.

He said that all parties need to make efforts to ease the situation and bring the situation out of the "black hole" of confrontation. He called on parties to create the necessary conditions and atmosphere for the resumption of dialogue and negotiations.

Raising requirements that do not conform with the Security Council resolutions or taking unilateral steps will undermine the unity of the UN Security Council and the interests of other countries, said Wang, adding that China will by no means agree to or accept such actions.

He said that China has made more efforts and borne more costs than other relevant parties on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

All parties must follow the spirit and stipulations of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, which represent the common will of the international community and are an international obligation, he said.

China's suspension-for-suspension initiative calls for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to suspend its nuclear and missile activities in exchange for the suspension of large-scale U.S.-Republic of Korea (ROK) military exercises.
