China Southern Airlines, one of the country's major state-owned carriers, on Wednesday night sent two planes to fetch Chinese tourists stranded in Bali, Indonesia, after a volcano eruption.

The airline said 1,297 passengers have booked seats on its flights flying out of Bali to Guangzhou and Shenzhen between Nov. 30 and Dec. 7. The two wide-body A330 planes are scheduled to take off from Bali at dawn Thursday.

The International Ngurah Rai airport in Bali was closed on Monday due to the eruption of Mount Agung volcano. The airport only re-opened Wednesday afternoon and was subject to further closures depending on the weather and the movement of volcanic ash.
