A half marathon featuring ice, snow and cold weather will kick off on December 24 in Genhe, a city recognized as China's "Pole of Cold" in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, local sports officials said on Monday.
Registration started on Monday morning, said the officials, adding that runners completing a distance of 21.0975 kilometers within 3.5 hours will receive awards.
Last year, the first event of its kind attracted more than 400 participants.
Located at the northernmost tip of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Genhe's average yearly temperature is minus 5.3 degrees celsius, while its lowest temperature recorded is minus 58 degrees celsius.
