Among the activities was the launch of the China Books Editorial Department and an exhibit of China-themed books copublished by Chinese and Indian publishers.

More than 100 people attended the exhibit, including Tuo Zhen, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China; and Cheng Guangzhong, minister-counselor of the Chinese embassy in India.

Xi, who is currently in Cambodia for a state visit, will attend the eighth BRICS Summit in Goa, India, on Saturday and Sunday, according to Li Baodong, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs.

A project designed to introduce Chinese books abroad, the China Books Editorial Department works for cooperation with publishers in countries outside China to publish books focusing on China. The establishment of the editorial department in India aims to distribute more quality China-themed books that will help the Indian people understand the country better.

Also on Thursday, representatives from Chinese and Indian news media, including China Daily, attended a dialogue discussing issues including strengthening news cooperation and the development of new media.

Attendees from both sides said they will strive to cover the BRICS Summit well, including activities that will be attended by the Chinese president. They also expressed hope of contributing to the development of China-India ties, and promoting friendship between the two countries.

Chinese broadcasting companies signed deals with their Indian counterparts during the activities.

Chinese and Indian media have pursued exchanges in recent years to improve mutual understanding. Forums attended by media chiefs and scholars in 2013 and 2015, jointly sponsored by China's State Council Information Office and the Indian Foreign Ministry, are one example.
