The 6th bilateral meeting on anti-drug cooperation between Vietnam and China was held Thursday in Vietnam's central Khanh Hoa province, some 1,040 km south of capital Hanoi.
Speaking at the meeting held by General Police Department under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, An Guojun, deputy secretary-general of the National Narcotics Control Commission under China's Ministry of Public Security, said further strengthening anti-drug cooperation and improving cooperation levels between China and Vietnam are of great significance in the work of anti-drug of the two countries, contributing to making positive changes in regional and global anti-drug situation.
Dong Dai Loc, deputy director of Vietnam's police general department, said Vietnam and China are facing hikes in activities of trans-national crime organizations in illegal production, sale and transportation of drug in more complicated ways.
After the 5th bilateral meeting in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province in October 2015, the two countries have carried out a narcotics suppression campaign along the shared border and gained practical results, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA on Thursday.
During the first half of 2016, Vietnamese authorities have detected over 10,000 drug-related cases and arrested over 15,000 people with a large amount of heroin, opium, synthetic drugs and marijuana among others.
From the beginning of 2015 to the end of the first quarter of 2016, China had discovered 78 drug cases with over 100 people with 171 kg drugs seized.
Chinese representatives said at the meeting that Vietnam has become a hub of transporting drugs originating from the Golden Triangle and Golden Crescent areas to China.
Participants at the meeting shared information on drug criminals over the past time, as well as experience on situation of the drug addicted and anti-drug education in each country among others.
The third campaign on joint offensive against drug criminals along Vietnam-China shared border will be implemented, reported the VNA.
