Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday that China is willing to further deepen political trust and expand mutually beneficial cooperation with Myanmar.

When meeting with his Myanmar counterpart Aung San Suu Kyi, Wang said his visit to Myanmar days after the new government took office highlighted the fraternal friendship between the two neighbors.

"The China-Myanmar relations are now at a new historical starting point," he said.

The Chinese side is ready to join hands with the new Myanmar government to carry on their traditional friendship, deepen political mutual trust and open up a new era for bilateral ties, he added.

China's policy toward Myanmar will not be affected by the change of domestic situation in the country, he stressed.

The Chinese foreign minister expressed his hope that the two sides would strengthen high-level and inter-party exchanges and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.

China will continue to play an active role in pushing forward the national reconciliation and peace process in Myanmar on the basis of respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Wang.

For her part, Suu Kyi said Myanmar and China are neighbors whose interests are inter-linked. Myanmar will not forget the support and help China has provided to the country especially during the hard times.

As the Myanmar government is dedicated to promoting peace and national reconciliation in efforts to achieve stability and development of the country, China's continued support to Myanmar is of great significance, she said.

The Myanmar government is willing to work with China to enhance high-level exchanges and boost economic cooperation in order to elevate bilateral ties to a new high, she added.

Wang arrived here Tuesday for a two-day visit after the new Myanmar government led by President U Htin Kyaw was sworn in on March 30.
