More disabled people will be able to drive in China, including those with paralyzed upper limbs or with visual impairment in one eye, thanks to revisions to driving license regulations that will take effect from April 1.

The revised regulations allow people with one hand missing to acquire a license for adapted vehicles, and allows those with missing fingers on the right hand to drive regular cars.

China lifted ban for disabled driving in 2003 and has gradually made those with paralyzed lower limbs or hearing impairments eligible to drive.

About 74,000 disabled people have driver's license, figures from the Ministry of Public Security show.

The new rules were introduced because China has made progresses in refitting vehicles and improving rules for disabled drivers, the ministry said.
