Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui on Tuesday praised BRICS countries' role in promoting world economy and justice.
Over the last seven years, BRICS countries, which group Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, have enhanced their political trust, economic and trade cooperation and personnel exchanges, displaying strong vitality and huge potential, Zhang said in his speech at the first BRICS Media Summit that opened here Tuesday morning.
According to Zhang, the bloc accounted for 21.9 percent of the world economy in 2014, up from 16.2 percent in 2009.
"The ratio is expected to reach 25.77 percent in 2020. BRICS countries have become a powerful driver for global economic recovery."
Also, Zhang said BRICS countries have been playing a constructive role in maintaining fairness and justice in the world.
Zhang stressed that BRICS countries are "protectors of current international system," "constructors of international peace" and "promoters of a new type of international relations."
He also praised the BRICS countries' efforts to explore their own development paths, which have served as valuable references for other countries.
BRICS countries have been providing all possible help for other developing countries, and they are real partners of developing countries, he said.
Noting that some emerging markets and developing countries are experiencing some difficulties, Zhang called on relevant countries to strengthen confidence and further enhance the BRICS partnership.
He pledged further practical cooperation, closer economic bond and greater efforts to strengthen coordination, maintain world peace and promote common development among BRICS countries.
Media cooperation not only adds new vitality into the BRICS cooperation, but helps enhance understanding among the bloc's population of over 3 billion, Zhang said, pledging continued support from his ministry.
