China and Argentina pledged here Saturday to continue friendly cooperation regardless of the outcome of the upcoming presidential runoff in the Latin American country.
The ties between the two nations have developed rapidly over recent years and are "in the best period in history," Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman said in talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
Both ministers are here in the Mediterranean coastal city of Antalya in southwest Turkey to accompany their presidents for the Group of 20 (G20)summit scheduled for Nov. 15-16.[Special coverage]
"No matter what the result will be, China's importance to Argentina won't change," Timerman said, referring to Argentia's presidential runoff scheduled for Nov. 22.
"Argentina will continue to pursue a friendly policy toward China."
Wang echoed his remarks, saying: "No matter how the domestic situation in Argentina changes, China won't change its policy that supports Argentina's economic and social development."
Timerman said China's cooperation with Argentina and other Latin American countries in infrastructure and investment has brought tangible benefits to Latin American people.
He thanked China for its consistent and firm support to Argentina in its fight for safeguarding national sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests.
Wang lauded Argentina's efforts in developing relations with China.
Both sides pledged to enhance communication and coordination within the G20 framework and other international affairs, and to speak louder together for emerging economies and developing countries.
Hailing China's hosting of next year's G20 summit as a "pride" for all developing countries, Timerman underscored that Argentina will continue to firmly support China in convening a successful meeting.
