China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country's top economic planner, on Monday approved a plan to lay down a new high-speed railway linking Zhengzhou, capital of Central China's Henan Province and Fuyang in East China's Anhui Province.
According to an NDRC circular, issued on Friday, the railway will stretch for 277 kilometers and is aimed at increasing transportation capacity between the two provinces. The project will need total investment of 42.72 billion yuan ($6.74 billion).
The government signed off on at least 63 major infrastructure projects worth about 934 billion yuan in the first nine months, according to NDRC's website.
