Chinese ambassador to South Korea Qiu Guohong on Friday urged South Korea and the DPRK to remain restrained after a fire exchange between the two sides, according to South Korean media.
The ambassador was quoted by Korean Yonhap News Agency as saying that the Chinese government opposes any unilateral provocation and hopes South Korea and the DPRK achieve an independent peaceful reunification through dialogue and cooperation.
He said this when responding to a question about the escalating tension on the Korean Peninsula. Earlier, he made a speech themed "Strengthen China-South Korea Economic Cooperation and Strategic Development of Bilateral Relationships" on the same day.
