    Global bomb attacks in recent years

    A bomb was detonated Monday at about 7:00 p.m. local time (1200 GMT) in the Thai capital Bangkok's downtown area, killing at least 19 people and injuring 117.

    Three Chinese nationals died in the attack at Erawan Shrine, a popular Hindu shrine in the city's tourist center. Thai Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan classified the attack as a terrorist act, saying the perpetrator "deliberately targeted foreigners to harm tourism and the economy".

    The following is a review of major deadly bomb attacks that happened worldwide in the last two years.

    On July 17, 2015, a truck with three tons of explosives went off in a market in the northern Iraqi city of Bani Saad, where thousands of people were gathered to celebrate the end of Ramadan, killing 120 people. The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the attack.

    On April 18, 2015, two explosions rocked the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, one outside a bank and the other near the Information and Culture Department, killing 33 people and wounding over 100. The IS later claimed responsibility for the suicide attacks.

    On April 2, 2015, militant group Al-Shabaab attacked Garissa University College in northeastern Kenya, killing 147 people and injuring 79 others.

    On March 20, 2015, a total of 150 people were killed and at least 345 were wounded in four explosions in Yemen, two rocking the capital city of Sanaa and the other two hitting Saada province.

    On Oct. 21, 2014, a series of explosions outside restaurants and cafes in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad killed at least 21 people and injured dozens of others.

    On Oct. 5, 2014, a City Day concert was scheduled in Grozny, Chechnya, where. A suicide attacker detonated an explosive belt when he was asked by police to show his ID near the door frame metal detectors in front of the concert hall, killing five officers and injuring another 12 people.

    On Oct. 4, 2014, a suicide bomber killed five and wounded 25 at a marketplace in Quetta, western Pakistan. On the same day, a bomb went off at a bus stop in Kohat, northwestern Pakistan, killing six and wounding 17.
